This intricate piece of art is realized by Jennifer Taylor.

Graduating from the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art and following up with a Master in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art in 2007, Taylor mixes materials in an obsessive and labour-intensive detail to evoke crisis, chaos, infinity, and, at the same time, order, with works that often evoke quietness and dreamy freedom.

Jennifer Taylor’s unique world, ‘Hollowsphere’, is an exploration of the human mind and the complex systems that surround us, as well as the ones that we create.

Maskhara by Bryan Rollins

Where does the mask end and the face begin? How we perceive ourselves, as well as, what we truly are, is determined by our pasts and our experiences – that which we can never escape. We masquerade to protect our vulnerabilities, or our pasts and to perhaps deceive others or join them. These guises are as fragile as the idea of identity in itself, yet we still choose to conceal ourselves. Derrida theorizes that our identities are not self contained, but constructed from language, culture, and history, and are therefore composites of experience and circumstance. I submit that masking, by proxy, is that manifested identity constructed totally outside of circumstance shaped by the other.

“Maskhara” is an Arabic word meaning to distort or falsify into an animal or monster and is where the European iterations of “mask” are derived…

“While we are alive, we cannot escape from masks or names. We are inseparable from our fictions, our features. We are condemned to invent a mask for ourselves and afterward to discover that the mask is our true face.” – Octavio Paz, 1970

Robert Bradford grew up in a fairly bland South London suburb and wanted to become an artist from a very young age. He did his Foundation at Beckenham School of Art , his B.A. in painting at Ravensbourne College of Art in Kent and an M.A. in Film at the Royal College of Art, London.

After college for he worked as a mental health worker for several years in order to support his work (and not be dependent upon sales). At that time his work primarily focused on painting and drawing but also included experiments with film video and photography. He showed widely in Great Britain during this period exhibiting at the I.C.A,. London. Arnolfini Bristol and Richard Demarco Galleries Edinburgh amongst many others.

Whilst lecturing at Maidstone College Of Art he was offered visiting lectureship at San Diego State University in California U.S.A. where he then lived worked and exhibited for five years, and where he has pieces in many Public and Private Collections. His exhibitions
there include San Diego Museum of Art, Bernard Jacobson Gallery and Stella Polaris Gallery (both Los Angeles).

Upon his return to England Robert continued his interest in mental health and trained and practiced as a psychotherapist part time in London and Bristol whilst switching his art career to focus upon sculpture, initially in the area of public art. He began a series of more than 40 pyrotechnical fire sculptures and other interactive works, which continued through his most recent move to Cornwall in 2001 where he is well known for his five annual Beast Burnings on Bodmin Moor and for his large scale Bombus Bee built for the Eden Project in 2001/2.

In 2004 Robert began experimenting with a series of sculptures which utilise plastic toys as their main modelling material, and which have now attracted consistent international attention. After trials with two unsatisfactory construction methods, he began screwing the toys into wooden armatures, which proved both strong and highly adaptable as a method,

Works from this series have been showing in London Bristol and New York, can be seen in Paris Amsterdam London Flanders and Bangkok over the next months.

The artist is represented primarily by Mauger Modern Art, (Bath England), in collaboration with Gallery One (Surrey England), Enviedart (Paris London and Brussels) and La Lanta Gallery (Bangkok, Thailand).

Maurizio Savini is an Italian artist represented by Pastificio Cerere Foundation in Rome. His sculptures are made just by chewingum. An interesting review below comes from Mario Codognato for Pastificio Cerere. Enjoy!

Chewing-gum, as a matter of fact known in Italian also as “ American gum “, was introduced by American soldiers with the end of World war two together with jeans, nylon, stocking and boggie-woggie. Its association with a state of euphoria of change and carefree youthfulness some how carried on in the following decades. Also for those born in the sixties as Maurizio Savini and I, chewing-gum reaches in the mind ‘s meanders at a tie with childhood and adolescence, and a light pressure of a future still to be built and dreamt and the slaughterhouse of personal and collective memories of the past which is gone, no one knows where when and with whom.

The sensual act of chewing, the voluptuous warmth of rebelling saliva, the artificial and secretly aseptic fragrance which spreads from the mouth as a promise and missed kiss. The synthetic fleshliness of the pink color, the obsessive square shape of the product unwrapped and ready to be shred to pieces by the power of the tongue, all compete in crashing on the senses. Applying all this to the power and energy of the Sculpture and its history causes a short circuit having the capacity of turning the ludic into stately and vice versa. The strict minimalism of parallelepiped is subverted by the uniform coating with many bars of chewing-gum completely cover it, rendering chewable to desire, soft and provoking to forbidden touch, what was abstract and distant.

Her work will be immediately recognisable to some of you for the volume and dexterity of crochet work. However she makes important sculptural pieces which pull upon a great range of influences, materials and disciplines. Her output is prolific, having it’s roots in sculpture it has grown in scale and detail, range and focus. From outdoor installations to video, ceramic, fabric, and hair, from feminism, identity, globalisation to alcoholism, themes of intellect and kitsch.

Vasconcelos’ work repeatedly plays upon the tension between the large scale of peices and the small initmate details of their technical execution. The materials and techniques used are employed to cleverly communicate subversion and strength, having great impact from afar then pulling you in closer.
