Deus by UVA

Posted by Fabrik | June 24, 2009

United Visual Artist - Deus [2009]

This is the first United Visual Artist photographic exposition currently at The Smithfield Gallery in London. Light’s Theme!

From the site

UVA’s first photographic show explores the notion of light as the creator of space, and artificial light’s ability to spatially redefine normally unilluminated space.

The exhibition contains a series of large scale backlit photographs that explore the effect of artificial light on the man-altered natural landscape. Introducing the artificial light had a transforming effect, literally creating a new place that only existed momentarily.

Exhibition runs from the June 3rd – 26th 2009
The Smithfield Gallery, London

“Eile” at Electrovisiones ‘09

Posted by Electrovisiones | May 21, 2009

Eile - Improvisation [2009]

Video, audio and concept : Yro
Pure-Data patch : Yro, Pierre Mersadier & PDmtl abstraction
Camera : Jean-Marc S.

EILE IS A PERFORMANCE, A CONCEPT, A PROCESS.
EILE IS LIVE VIDEO, LIVE MUSIC & IMPROVISATION
EILE IS A STORY, AN ABSTRACTION, REAL
EILE IS NOISE, CONCRETE AND EXPERIMENTAL
EILE IS A PUREDATA PATCH

Using stones, balls, bits of paper and string, Yroyto plays a score totally live. He plays with the notions of scale and size, of noise and impact…. to create a strange and heady cinema.

The video is textured and granular; the sound is concrete and noisy.

VACANZE ROMANE

Exhibition: Fabio Lattanzi Antinori and Mario Greco
Org. Promart
Critic essay. Angela Madesani
Catalogue available from 4th July.

Opening. Saturday 23rd May, 18:30

23.05.09 > 04.07.09

The artistic research of Mario Greco and that of Fabio Lattanzi Antinori explore different scenarios and utilise different languages, but possess elements of unity that Promart (which curates the exhibition in collaboration with the city of Villa Lagarina), aim to bring to light: the dynamic and video related language of Mario Greco matches plays against that of Lattanzi Antinori, which is essentially static. This dualistic nature influences the character of the entire exhibition, giving birth to precarious balances made out of a subterranean distress, multilinguism and polisensoriality, non places in search of a personality, the cycles of life, death and rebirth.

To better represent the separate aspects of Vacanze Romane, the rooms of Palazzo Libera per l’Arte Contemporanea will be divided in two main areas: Motus, or the area of movement and evolution and Stasis, the space of stillness and motionless representations.

Makers & Spectators

In the last period i’ ve seen many experimentations beetween robotic, mechanic art, lego and technology. Do you remember the “Lego Cinema Room”, posted few weeks ago? So Cool!

Now is the turn of Nils Völker, a designer from Berlin and his Drawing Lego Robot. The robot was built by the artist for the exhibition “Makers & Spectators” at the MU in Eindhoven by Christien Meindertsma.

Video of the robot below

Drawing Robot at the MU, Eindhoven, Netherlands

An eyetracker records the movement of the visitor’s eyes. A robot hanging from the ceiling on top of a large pile of paper makes one dot for every point the visitor has been looking at. This results in large scale images showing how the same objects have been seen differently.

Video of the “Makers & Spectators” exposition below

Christien Meindertsma, Makers & Spectators

Makers & Spectators is an experimental exhibit exploring the concept of seeing the same thing differently. By using eyetrackers, Christien Meindertsma researches how people view objects. The data is visualized in various forms, including the help of Nils Völkers’ robots (built with of the shelf parts).

Makers & Spectators is on view at Mu gallery in Eindhoven till the 14th of June.

EVOL first solo exhibition!

Posted by Fabrik | May 13, 2009

EVOL - New Works [May 1 – May 30, 2009, WILDE Gallery, Chausseestr. 7 Berlin-Mitte]

Evol’s is one of the most interesting street artist that i known. He’s curretly displaying his new works at the WILDE Gallery in Berlin. You can check out the photographs taken by Just, which documents the vernisagge at the Wilde Gallery in Berlin. If are you there, please don’ t miss it!

Below the complete WILDE gallery expo description. Enjoy!

Evol’s interests have focused on the overlooked and the refuse of urban society, offering visual comments and thoughts that remind us of the failure of modernism and its visions of an architectural utopia. EVOL draws our attention to the collective memory of places, a memory that is open ended, but in it’s decoding always seems to remain strangely personal.

The artists’ exploration of urban sites and the visual ‘background’ noise of the city is a stark reminder of the transience of life as well as the certainty of death. The pictures of EVOL are quite literally decaying from their moment of inception.

The artist places materiality itself in the forefront of his expression of the urban condition, its promise of ruin and eventual cyclical gentrification.

Architectural elements dominate EVOL’s images and their photographic precision is the result of a multitude of labour-intensive stencils that are layered, applied and traced with spray cans on found wood and discarded cardboard. It is a reverse imaging process that finally arrives at a model of representation that is not painting, not photography, not graffiti and not drawing, but a synthesis of them all.

For his first solo show with the gallery, EVOL presents a Four by Three meter installation titled “Flamingo Beach – Later” consisting of a meticulously stencilled environment that oscillates between a real transitory space and an imaginary faux location that plays on the idea of the cinematic prop as well as collective suspension of disbelief.

Having gained notoriety at last year’s art fairs in Miami Beach and during the Armory Art-Week in New York in March, EVOL’s works have been acquired by leading international collectors and several works are currently being discussed for inclusion with US and European museums. In the summer 2009 EVOL will participate at OSTRALE 2009 in Dresden and the exhibition “Street/Studio” at Irvine Contemporary, Washington DC. His works have been extensively highlighted in the new book: Beyond Architecture (Gestalten Verlag, 2009)
